Page structure finder.

Paste the HTML of any page and see its headings as an outline, the way a search engine or screen reader reads the page structure.

Technical SEO

About this tool.

Headings (h1 to h6) are the outline of a page. They tell visitors, screen readers and search engines what the page is about and how it is organised. Common problems are a missing or repeated h1, jumping from an h2 straight to an h4, and empty headings left behind by a page builder. This tool lists every heading in order, shows the outline, and flags those problems. Browsers do not allow a web page to fetch another website, so you paste the page source instead. It is read in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

How to use it
  1. Open your page, press Ctrl+U (or right-click and choose View page source), select all and copy.
  2. Paste it into the box, or upload a saved .html file. The outline appears straight away.
  3. Read the checks, fix any problems in your page, and paste again to confirm.

Nothing is uploaded. The page is read inside your browser. 534 characters.

Heading outline

Good to know: If your page is built with JavaScript, View page source can be almost empty. In that case open the browser inspector, right-click the <html> tag, choose Copy outerHTML and paste that instead. Headings should describe the content, so do not use them just to make text bigger.

Questions

Good to know.

Why can I not just type my web address?+
Browsers block one website from reading another, so a free in-browser tool cannot fetch your page for you. Pasting the page source works for any page, including ones that are not public yet.
Should a page have only one h1?+
HTML allows more than one, but one clear h1 that says what the page is about is the safest choice for search engines and screen readers. Use h2 and h3 for the sections under it.
Do heading levels affect ranking?+
There is no magic number. Clear headings help people and search engines understand the page, and that helps the page do well. Keep them honest and descriptive rather than stuffed with keywords.
Is my HTML sent anywhere?+
No. The page is read inside your browser. Scripts in the pasted code are not run.
